Campobello author takes kids through heart-pounding folk tale in new children’s book
CAMPOBELLO, S.C. — Author Sandra Atkins thrills her young readers in the nationwide release of her new children’s book, “The Curse of the Owl.”
She couldn’t die! She was too young! But because of what has happened, little Cassie now knows better. She and her 12-year-old brother, Sam, both heard the screech owl outside their window last night. Sam tied a knot in one corner of his bed sheet. Cassie did not, and now, she is doomed.

Atkins lives in the small town of Campobello, South Carolina, where she grew up surrounded by a colorful assortment of characters and their local superstitions. Aside from writing about her unique experiences growing up in the Deep South, Atkins also loves painting murals for her local church and participating in the Bible school there. The widowed author lives with her son, her three dogs and her cat.
